The 2026 residential energy storage grant is one of the best opportunities to add a battery to an existing or new solar system. The support can reach HUF 2.5 million and may cover a significant share of the battery price. The conditions can change in the call for applications, so this summary is for guidance only. Always follow the official, current call before submitting.
Who can apply?
- The owner or authorised user of a Hungarian residential property, as a private individual.
- A property with an operating solar system (HMKE), or one installed at the same time as the project.
- A valid electricity contract and grid connection at the metering point.
What battery size is supported?
Support typically applies to systems with 5 to 15 kWh of usable capacity. The amount is proportional to capacity, with a ceiling of HUF 2.5 million. The product must meet the technical conditions of the call (for example certifications, manufacturer warranty, the list of eligible products). For the Huawei, Deye, SOFAR and Solis battery solutions we sell, we always check the call's eligibility list.
Step by step
- Preparation: gather the property title deed, identification documents, your latest electricity bill and, if you have one, the existing HMKE documentation.
- Quote and technical design: the installer prepares the battery system design and quote. This is where it is decided whether the existing inverter is suitable or a hybrid inverter is needed.
- EPR registration: the application is submitted electronically through the EPR platform. Register early and test the login.
- Submission: fill in the form and upload the attachments. Order of submission often matters, so be ready when the window opens.
- Evaluation and decision: respond quickly to any requests for missing documents.
- Installation: only after the funding decision and the conditions of the call are met, within the stated deadline.
- Settlement: submit the invoice, certificate of completion, commissioning report and photo documentation, after which the grant is paid out.
Typical pitfalls
- Buying too early: if the call does not support projects started before the decision, the invoice may lose eligibility. Always check before signing or paying.
- Ineligible product or installer: you need a product that meets the call and an authorised contractor.
- Incomplete documentation: legible scans, signatures and complete attachments.
- Old or incompatible inverter: if a battery cannot be connected to your existing inverter, budget for a replacement or an AC-coupled solution.
- Grid capacity and HMKE conditions: if the system changes, there may be a notification duty towards the network operator.
- Forgetting the own contribution: the grant does not cover the whole cost, so plan for the difference and for VAT.
What timeline to expect
From publication of the call to the funding decision can take weeks, followed by weeks or months for installation and settlement. Installer capacity is tight around the application period, so it is worth having the site survey done before the call opens.
How we help
We carry out the technical survey, recommend the right battery, prepare the necessary technical documentation and schedule installation to meet the call's deadlines. You must submit the application form yourself, but we prepare the technical attachments.
Worth clarifying in advance
Ask the installer whether the chosen battery and inverter are on the list of eligible products, and whether the contract contains a clause for the case where the grant is not awarded. This protects your interests and avoids taking on a commitment before the funding decision.
